Successful Positive Motivation Tactics to Relieve Anxiety

Anxiety is oftentimes neglected, shrugged, and tolerated by many. It’s not like it’s something that would need serious medical attention right? Maybe not usually. But it’s here, it has always accompanied us in this journey called life. Everyone experiences it. A kid can be anxious about losing his favorite toy, teenagers about their grades, and older people about their health. Even I sometimes get anxious just thinking about what I will eat for dinner!

So how would we alleviate its effects on our everyday lives? Here’s how:

Positive motivation! Well what is it?

It is when you expect a reward or something good will come out as a result of all your efforts and hard work. It’s like when you want to lose weight because you want to have the confidence to ask the pretty girl in your office out. That right there is POSITIVE MOTIVATION!

Finding something to inspire you will help motivate you in achieving something you never thought of getting in the first place. Let’s use a pretty girl as an example for today.

Here’s how the process goes:

  • Identify the root cause of your anxiety
  • Set your goal
  • Devise your game plan
  • Execute
  • Maintain

1.    Identify the root of your anxiety

Well first you have to admit that you have a problem. Admitting that you are suffering from anxiety will lead to identifying what’s causing it. How? By knowing what’s stressing you out: bills to be paid? An upcoming exam? Track it down, grab it by the neck, and don’t let it go.

Let’s use our example above. You’re anxious that the office playboy would get to your pretty girl first. You like her but she’s way out of your league because you weigh around 220lbs. What do you do?

Identify the root cause of your anxiety: I’m feeling anxious and overly self-conscious because of my weight.

2.    Set your goal

This is where motivation kicks in. Sure you have a pretty face as a motivation, but is that enough to really get you to shed off those extra pounds? What’s in it for you? What’s the end game?

With the goal in sight, most likely you’ll stay on track and will always remember why you started this process in the first place.

Set your goal: Lose weight! Get to your healthy BMI. Let’s say you are 5’9” weighing at around 220lbs. You can then the goal to around 168 lbs.

3.    Devise your game plan

This is where it could get technical depending on what you are trying to achieve. It’s important to remember that the game plan should be realistic and doable. But remember, that you should never rush it when reaching out for a goal. You might end up tripping along the way.

Devise your game plan: Exercise, eat a healthy diet, and get enough sleep.

4.    Execute

Starting is never easy. But the hardest part of the process is executing the plan and sticking to it. Lucky for you I have a BONUS TIP: Cheat days!

You need to make sure you don’t lose sight of the end game. But don’t be too hard on yourself. Remember that you are allowed to ease up on it once in a while. Take it easy and you’ll get there. This will be your personal test of character and determination.

Execute: Just think of the pretty girl, ok? Set your mind to that long term goal that even if you may not attract the prettiest girl at work, you’ll definitely get the confidence to find one after shedding off the extra baggage.

5.    Maintain

I mentioned setting a goal from the beginning right? End game? Well I lied, sort of. There’s really no end game here. Your real goal is not to find yourself in the same kind of predicament again in the future. So whatever you did right, stick to it.

Maintain: You finally lost 50 lbs., now you can ask her out, right? That’s totally up to you. Just don’t go back to your old ways and gain weight again if she happens to dump you.

Kicking anxiety to the curb is always winning against the mint trick you set upon yourself. Self-encouragement is all you need to start taking a  step forward.
